I ROMANI BARBARIZZATI
Da un po' di tempo la genetica ci costringe a riscrivere la storia. Ecco un tipico enigma che pone: al momento del collasso romano, nei secoli V e VI, le popolazioni più esposte alla sostituzione etnica furono naturalmente quelle poste alla periferia dell'impero (Romania, Inghilterra, nord Italia...), e non è un caso se in quei territori si registreranno cambiamenti radicali nella lingua, nei costumi e spesso anche nella religione. Tuttavia, gli studi genetici ci dicono ora che il dna degli eredi è molto più simile a quello dei locali piuttosto che a quello dei barbari germanici e asiatici. In altri termini: l'invasione è stata più che altro di natura culturale. Come mai?
Ipotesi: non furono i barbari a far collassare l'impero ma il suo collasso stesso a barbarizzarlo. Si era in cerca di modelli più rustici e pratici, e in questo la cultura dei barbari attecchì.
