A CHE SERVE AVERE UN CANE?

A CHE SERVE AVERE UN CANE?

Pensare a “un bambino” non è come pensare al “mio bambino”, tra i due concetti c’è una distanza che ti apre un mondo. Si spalanca subito una differenza abissale che prima non sospettavi. Hai come l’impressione di cogliere la tua natura più profonda. Non te la scordi più e da quel momento ne fai il fulcro di ogni tua considerazione sociale, politica, antropologica, famigliare, filosofica…

“Un bambino” merita giusto un retorico e argomentato post a difesa su Facebook ma per il “tuo bambino” andresti nel fuoco senza dire niente a nessuno, senza giustificare alcunché e trascurando ogni argomento. Arrivo a dire che al “tuo bambino” non riesci nemmeno a “pensare”, si tratta di qualcosa di diverso. 

Pensare con rigore a “un bambino” è abbastanza facile: ne siamo circondati. Ma per pensare autenticamente al “mio bambino” la cosa migliore è di averne uno.

Ma forse non è nemmeno necessario arrivare a tanto: basta pensare a “un cane” in contrapposizione al “mio cane”. L’intuizione di fondo di quella indispensabile “differenza abissale” emerge ugualmente. Ora puoi capire.

Risposta: un cane fa la guardia, tiene compagnia, non si ammala quasi mai… ma il Goldberg ha in mente altro, è evidente. Secondo lui il cane ti ammaestra.

Quando hai un bambino acquisisci una certezza: tuo figlio è diverso dagli altri, almeno per te. Perché? Perché è il tuo!
Io sono un “assolutista” ma questa concessione al relativismo la faccio volentieri. Lo so, è una sfida alla ragione (che vorrebbe i bambini tutti uguali), ma anche un dogma di cui ciascun genitore è certo: è così, punto. I bambini non sono tutti uguali: c’è il mio, e poi ci sono gli altri. L’ “altruismo efficiente” puo’ andare a quel paese! Chi sostiene il contrario verrà trattato come merita, ovvero come un folle inaffidabile e pericoloso.
Platone, Robespierre e Hitler hanno teorizzato la proprietà comune dei figli, probabilmente non erano genitori. Ma ancora recentemente si sente dire che i figli “non sono dei genitori”, lo sostiene con enfasi Melissa Harris-Perry, per esempio. Anche la Hillary Clinton trova disdicevole che esista qualcosa come “i figli degli altri”. Non occorrono fumose teorie per accantonare simili posizioni, basta appellarsi alla “scienza”, ovvero osservare i fatti, ed è soprattutto quando diventate genitori che la chiarezza dei fatti s’impone: i vostri figli sono vostri, punto e basta. E’ sbagliato? Forse, ma di certo è umano. Anche l’uomo è “sbagliato”, in fondo, già Kant lo considerava “un legno storto” chiamando folle chi pretendesse di raddrizzarlo: non puoi fondare una civiltà su astrazioni campate in aria.
Phil Gramm nei dibattiti provocava la sua controparte così: “la mia politica educativa si basa sul fatto che tengo ai miei bambini più di lei”. E quando l’interlocutore si mostrava scettico lui proseguiva dicendo: “ma se non sa nemmeno come si chiamano!!!”.

Il cane non è un bambino ma è comunque un membro della famiglia. O almeno, lo considerano tale la maggioranza dei suoi possessori. Molti di loro si considerano addirittura più dei genitori che dei proprietari. Ma oltre all’opinione della gente lo conferma anche la psicologia e l’evoluzionismo: uomo e cane hanno costituito un fruttuoso sodalizio dall’alba dei tempi, e con gli affari, come sempre, è arrivato anche l’amore. E’ vero che l’evoluzionista duro e puro guarda al cane come a un parassita dell’uomo, un ipocrita che con le sue manfrine vuole solo guadagnarsi l’osso. Se fosse così anche moglie e figli sarebbero molto sospetti. Per Goldberg, anche qui, non c’è nulla di più semplice che confutare questa tesi: basta guardare. Guardare il proprio cane, guardare le feste che ci fa e sgamarlo nella sua spregevole ipocrisia. Il fatto è che lo si puo’ fare per anni per togliersi ogni dubbio ma alla fine si arriva sempre lì: la gioia che vedi è la gioia che sente, fine della storia. Se con la moglie puo’ ancora restare qualche piccolo dubbio, con il cane no.
Il cane è un bimbo in prova, non abbiamo niente di più simile. Puoi lasciare un gatto solo per giorni e quando torni ti riserverà a malapena un’occhiata. Il cane chiede una continua interazione, Goldberg parla di “proprietà attiva”, ma proprietà è la parola sbagliata visto che anche voi siete “proprietà” del vostro cane. Un cane si ammala e muore, questo puo’ essere un trauma per i bimbi, ma nella vita queste cose succedono e loro devono impararlo in qualche modo.
Avere un cane ti depura da ogni estremismo, specie in politica, ti fa capire che esiste una dimensione pre-politico e che  conta maledettamente. Anche in questo senso fa le veci della famiglia, i politologi sanno da tempo che la famiglia “modera” la politicae costituisce un antidoto ai  totalitarismi di qualsiasi segno. Non ci sono cani leghisti o cani pentastellati, la loro palese “innocenza” ci fa comprendere che qualcosa di importante precede ogni ragionamento sul sociale.
Alcuni legami sono più forti di altri, ce lo insegna la famiglia, ma l’introduzione ideale al magistero ce la fornisce il nostro cane, è lui che ci inculca l’esistenza di un ordine nelle priorità, un ordine che nessun razionalismo astratto potrà mai negare. Persino la religione viene dopo: come potrei credere ad un Dio che mi chiede di sacrificare i figli?

Un tempo avevo la mia dignità… poi divenni padre.
figli ti tolgono tutto, e la dignità è la prima ad andarsene: devi fare il palo mentre al parketto giocano con i giochi altrui, devi fingere di uscire di casa in piena note con guanti cappello e sciarpa per motivi che neanche tu capisci bene. Devi ingaggiare dei corpo a corpo con un nano sotto lo sguardo sprezzante di altri adulti… devi fare un mucchio di cose che puoi raccontare solo ad altri genitori!
Avere dei figli è un po’ come trasformarsi in un cane che invecchia, ogni anno ne vale sette. I figli ti tolgono tutto: oltre alla dignità ti tolgono cose, ti tolgono tempo, ti tolgono i tuoi hobby, ti tolgono la salute, ti tolgono soldi (tanti), ti tolgono serenità.
Alla fine resti solo. Solo con la tua anima, nudo con l’anima in mano. I cristiani chiamano un simile percorso Via Crucis, un consulente McKinsey lo chiamerebbe: “evoluzione per sottrazione”.
In teoria il padre dovrebbe portare in famiglia una risorsa scarsa come la virilità. Ma oggi la virilità non è benvista, in molti la giudicano obsoleta e poco necessaria. La virilità non ha molto spazio in un mondo effemminato come quello contemporaneo. In teoria la virilità sarebbe la capacità di prendere le redini quando la routine va a ramengo, quando si entra nella terra di nessuno dove non c’è legge a cui riferirsi, quando il controllo della modernità e le sicurezze della scienza diventano un pallido mito sullo sfondo, quando ogni altro piano fallisce. La virilità è l’ultima spiaggia, quella che precede la preghiera e la rassegnazione. Ma la virilità è anche fonte di guai, ha un suo lato oscuro, quello che produce tanti palloni gonfiati dall’ orgoglio ridicolo, individui fastidiosi sempre pronti ad attaccar briga con chiunque.
Tesi: i padri  si possono salvare solo salvando la virilità.
C’è una via? Forse sì, forse si puo’ puntare sulla “cavalleria”. Certo femminismo la odia e ne ha ben donde: è l’aspetto ancora “presentabile” della virilità. Se apro la porta dell’auto a mia moglie sono un maledetto sessista ma chi mi condannerebbe? Senza condanne sarei un sessista orgoglioso di esserlo, e questo è imbarazzante per chi vuol trasformare l’epiteto in un sinonimo di “psicopatico serial killer”. La “cavalleria” esiste da sempre e ovunque: paladini, crociati, samurai, soldati… è un concetto che possediamo e difficile da annientare, tutti plaudiamo ai “cavalieri”, non farlo appare ridicolo. Perché io dovrei essere disprezzato e bollato come “sessista” solo perché mi comporto da cavaliere? I cavalieri fanno sbiadire il significato alla parola sessista, ne indeboliscono il concetto stesso.
Il cavaliere sacrifica tutto per un interesse altrui, nel nostro caso: il padre virile intraprende un’ “evoluzione per sottrazione”, una via crucis per la sua famiglia. Il famigerato San Paolo chiedeva alla moglie di sottomettersi a lui e nel rigo successivo al marito di morire per lei. Inaccettabile. Ma forse anche reinterpretabile, quel “morire” oggi potrebbe essere inteso come  una richiesta di virilità: un po’ di onore/vergogna al posto del solito denaro/calcolo. Ma giusto un po’, consci del “lato oscuro” di questa roba. Un onore da ricercare nella difesa gratuita del debole e dell’innocente, ovvero “donne&bambini”. La paternità, a questo punto, diventa il lato buono della virilità. Se la cavalleria ha diritto di cittadinanza ancora oggi, allora la via crucis di cui sopra non è più un assurdo: un padre consuma la sua vita affinché un’altra possa fiorire, in senso biologico ma anche trascendentale.
