L'articolo dei due neo-Nobel è riassumibile così: in economia gli USA dovrebbero imitare la UE. Più tasse e più welfare (gli incentivi sono sopravvalutati).

Dubbio: ma l'UE è più povera degli USA. Ha un reddito medio pro-capite pari a quello del Mississippi (uno degli stati più poveri degli USA).

Perché?

La spiegazione degli incentivi gira a meraviglia ma la sinistra non vuole ricorrervi e le alternative che presenta non convincono molto.

In piena guerra fredda facevo le medie e ogni tanto anche nella nostra auletta scassata, su impulso di qualche professore annoiato dal sussidiario, si animava un para-dibattito politico rozzo, intenso e breve (avevamo ben altro a cui pensare), in esso i ragazzi ripetevano sostanzialmente quanto ascoltavano a casa dai genitori intenti a chiosare sarcasticamente il TG. I sostenitori dei rossi – provenienti dalle famiglie più istruite e riflessive – vantavano con calma e autocontrollo l’eguaglianza che regnava in URSS e Cuba. I sostenitori degli amerikani imperialisti – ciarpame della periferia varesina tutto proiettato sulla gratificazione immediata – berciavano con la vena gongia e alzandosi in piedi sempre lo stesso ritornello: i poveri amerikani stanno meglio dei rossi benestanti! Al che i fighetti attaccavano la solfa degli ospedali cubani imparata guardando Gianni Minà a Blitz la domenica pomeriggio.

Mi fermo qui, sappiamo tutti come andò a finire. Solo per dire: non è che la storia si ripete? Questa volta al posto dei rossi ci sarebbe... ehm... l’Europa socialdemocratica.
