Uno spettro si aggira per l’occidente, è quello del "modernista progressista" MOD). Il MOD gode nel criticare le malefatte del suo gruppo di appartenenza e nel tempo ha sviluppato una sua visione storica imperniata sull’oppressione etno-razziale dei bianchi.

Cosa succede quando un tipo del genere da minoranza folcloristica diventa predominante? Tutto si trasforma in guerra culturale. Invece di compromessi ragionevoli tra coloro che, ad esempio, vogliono livelli di immigrazione più alti o più bassi, la battaglia è tra razzisti e anti-razzisti. Schierarsi per l’omogeneità e la stabilità etnica non è percepito come un’opzione politica ma come una visione ristretta ed escludente. Tutto la retorica MOD è venata da moralismo pseudoreligioso.

Il MOD ha radici nel passato, incarna uno spirito di anti-tradizionalismo che è emerso nella cultura occidentale tra il 1880 e il 1930. Il cosmopolitismo è da sempre la sua filosofia guida. Diversamente da socialismo e fascismo, questo modernismo di sinistra si adattava bene al capitalismo e alla globalizzazione. Negli anni sessanta, la sensibilità MOD si è estesa da una piccola élite a una parte molto più ampia della società borghese grazie alla diffusione della TV e al crescente ruolo delle università, assumendo il ruolo di sensibilità dominante nella cultura alta. Il MOD non cercava solo di persuadere, ma di istituzionalizzarsi, alterando le basi del liberalismo e passando da una generica tolleranza della diversità ad una sua imposizione. Se qualcuno non ama il kebab, il nuovo ordine morale gli chiederà di celebrarlo comunque, o come minimo di silenziare la sua avversione perché ritenuta anti-sociale. L’atteggiamento MOD si è lentamente trasformato in una forma coercitiva di liberalismo senza radici nella tradizione giuridica occidentale. Il MOD ha gettato le basi per un nuovo ordine morale - una ridefinizione del sacro e del perverso - che ha derubricato ogni provvedimento di restrizione dell'immigrazione ad atto malvagio e razzista. Negli USA il MOD cerca di consacrare i campus universitari a spazio dedicato alla cura meticolosa della diversità coercitiva. A partire dal 2010, la destra populista ha per la prima volta sfidato esplicitamente i tabù MOD sul sentimento anti-musulmano, mettendo in pericolo la libertà religiosa dei musulmani conservatori. Il conflitto si è poi esteso in altre materie, a partire dai problemi migratori. Oggi in molti paesi la battaglia politica è essenzialmente una guerra tra etno-tradizionalismo bianco e moralismo antirazzista (MOD).

A nessuno piace infliggere punizioni. Punendo ci si prende un rischio, e si paga un prezzo. La persona punita infatti potrebbe arrivare a odiare il suo punitore. E la prospettiva dell’odio altrui ovviamente ci disturba.

Ogni volta che anche solo imponiamo qualcosa, o che ci imponiamo all’altro (contrapponendogli la nostra opinione, o facendo valere una regola, un diritto) ci esponiamo all’altrui disapprovazione. Diventiamo antipatici, odiosi. Creiamo fastidio.

Penso alla solitudine del’anti-fascista senza fascismo, a quella del missionario senza povertà, allo struggimento dell’interista senza Juventus… Voi ridete ma è un dramma. Ti senti spaesato, goffo e stupido come quando al buio in fondo alla scala aspetti un ultimo gradino che non c’è. Vuoi compensare in qualche modo, incanalare subito altrove le tue energie positive in esubero. Non offri un bello spettacolo.

Quando ridicolizzo chi utilizza sette pattumiere per riciclare i rifiuti o mangia bio per combattere il riscaldamento globale, c’è sempre chi – sapendo che non sono un negazionista - avanza un’obiezione (solo apparentemente) sensata: “ma che male ti fa, anche lui nel suo piccolo dà un contributo alla soluzione del problema, lascialo in pace e lascialo vivere come crede”. No, le cose non stanno in questi termini. Un “gretino” impegnato in micro-condotte eco-friendly assomiglia molto di più all’adepto di una setta che a chi “dà il suo piccolo contributo”. In quanto tale, come tutti i temperamenti religiosi, nel momento in cui intravede che la sua divinità cessa di essere utile, potrebbe entrare in crisi esistenziale e diventare cattivo. Il nemico che viene a mancare lo rende nervoso.

Un dato che mi conferma nella mia ipotesi: chi è più impegnato ad orientare la sua esistenza contro l’effetto serra è anche il più ostile ad adottare misure serie (carbon tax, nucleare, geoengineering) per risolvere il problema ambientale.

E chi riferisce a chi vede nell'utopia verde l'ultima trincea contro mercato e diseguaglianze che la lotta per un ambiente più pulito richiede più mercato e più diseguaglianze?

Chi esprime un’opinione argomentata in luogo autorevole (giornale, libro o saggio), la espone elencando gli argomenti a sostegno. Ma questo occupa il 10% dello spazio a disposizione, il resto viene impiegato per “mostrare i muscoli”.

“Mostrare i muscoli” serve per far passare un messaggio fondamentale: sono una persona credibile e la mia non è un’opinione qualsiasi.

Ma come si mostrano i muscoli? In genere esibendo la propria erudizione in materia, dimostrando contezza sul lavoro pregresso avente lo stesso oggetto e facendo mostra di facoltà cognitive sopra la media.

Facciamo un caso. Nei lavori scientifici di economia il 90% dello spazio è dedicato allo sviluppo matematico del modello, ma le premesse e la tesi, ovvero il succo, sono riassunti nell’abstract e nelle conclusioni. Tuttavia, tutta quella matematica è essenziale per “mostrare i muscoli”, al punto che al momento mai nessun lavoro ha la minima chance di essere pubblicato se manca di quell’apparato. E l’economia, nel suo sforzo di somigliare alla vera scienza, è una delle discipline che più venera la sintesi e la semplicità.

L’Europa diverrà un continente a razza mista.

Questa non è speculazione, ma è praticamente una certezza garantita dalle percentuali di matrimoni misti che si verificano in molti paesi occidentali. In paesi come l’Inghilterra la razza mista sarà maggioranza già tra 80 anni. Le eccezioni riguarderanno gli immigrati più recenti e i membri di gruppi religiosi come gli ebrei ultra-ortodossi.

Saremo sempre meno omogenei nel senso di come lo è oggi l’Islanda e sempre più omogenei nel senso di come lo è oggi un paese a razza mista come il Turkmenistan. Ma per arrivarci attraverseremo probabilmente una fase in cui ci avvicineremo a paesi multiculturali come  la Guyana o le Mauritius.

Tuttavia, la nostra cultura prevarrà poiché il nuovo soggetto a razza mista tenderà ad enfatizzare la parte europea del suo lignaggio occultando o minimizzando il resto.

Per almeno quattro motivi:

1) è mediamente più intelligente di te,
2) dedica più tempo di te alla materia,
3) intergisce con altri esperti molto più di te,
4) la sua reputazione cresce con la sua conoscenza.

Eppure, in molti, incoraggiati dalla retorica sul pensiero critico, tendono a trascurare la parola degli esperti. Dicono che "loro" non sono pecore, che vogliono pensare con la loro testa e che spesso gli esperti sbagliano.

Ed ecco allora che in biologia c'è chi mette in dubbio l'evoluzionismo, chi in fisica guarda storta la meccanica quantistica, chi in economia liquida i benefici dell'immigrazione e chi in etica esalta l'egoismo.

Eppure, alla luce dei primi 4 punti, per me il primato dell'esperto resta saldo.

Cio' non significa che in alcune circostanze il dilettante pocca sfidarlo con qualche chance di spuntarla. Esempio:

1) quando gli esperti sono in conflitto di interessi (pensate ad un insegnante che esalta il ruolo dell'educazione).

2) quando gli esperti limitano la loro ricerca o i loro pronunciamenti per ragioni sociali (pensate alle question i della razza e dell'omosessualità).

3) quando gli esperti mischiano indebitamente la conoscenza di cui sono esperti con posizione che in realtà non ricadono nelle loro competenze (per esempio, molti antropologi sono relativisti culturali; molti scienziati sono scientisti...). Capita spesso che un esperto in materie scientifiche si metta a fare della filosofia, materia in cui magari è più dilettante di un dilettante qualsiasi (ci sono anche esempi illustri come Einstein, Bohr: sapendo che sono dei geni e non riuscendo a seguirli laddove lo sono sul serio, pensiamo di poter godere del loro sensazionale acume quando filosofeggiano come utenti Facebook qualsiasi).

PS due domande che possono aiutare nella valutazione di un caso concreto: 1) il dilettante eretico conosce bene l'ortodossia? (in genere no, altrimenti sarebbe un esperto). 2) gli esperti capiscono la teoria eretica del dilettante? (in genere no perché presentata sempre in modo incompleto e contraddittorio). Due "sì" renderebbero l'eresia molto più interessante.

PSS Inutile poi dire che ci sono alcuni problemi più facili di altri. Laddove i problemi sono troppo complessi non ci sono veri esperti, ognuno puo' dire la sua e anche la voce del dilettante non sfigura (esempio: le teorie sulla letteratura).

Mi ritengo abbastanza soddisfatto. Cosa ho perso? La privacy? Non ho mai avuto tanta privacy come oggi.In pratica, abbiamo più privacy oggi che in qualsiasi altro periodo della storia umana. Puoi acquistare prodotti imbarazzanti in segreto, puoi leggere o visualizzare praticamente tutto ciò che ti piace in segreto, puoi interagire con oltre un miliardo di persone in segreto. Praticamente fai tutto in segreto. Il tuo whatsapp non te lo apre neanche la NASA. Di cosa posso lamentarmi? Del fatto che non partecipo agli utili della compravendita dei miei dati? Ma neanche prima ricevevo una lira. Di essere bombardato di proposte che potrebbero interessarmi anziché di proposte che non mi interessano affatto? E’ molto più ragionevole dire che il fastidio non viene dalla privacy ma dagli obblighi a cui ci costringono per uno pseudo-rispetto formale.
