Sì? Bravo!! Potrei definirti genericamente un “naturalista”, ma è proprio a questo punto che devi operare la tua vera scelta di campo: o stai col “parco” o stai con lo “zoo”. Tradotto: o stai con i “preservazionisti” (P) o stai con i “resurezionisti” (R ).

Per capirci, vediamo P e R alle prese con il classico problema dei naturalisti: che fare davanti alla possibile estinzione della specie X?

P di solito si batte per salvaguardare gli ultimi esemplari, magari conservando il loro habitat naturale. R lascia X al suo destino compensando la probabile perdita con l’invenzione di nuove specie.

Ma come si inventano nuove specie di animali? Ci sono vari modi, ne cito solo due: 1) si sposta una specie da un continente all’altro facilitando incroci naturali e nuove storie faunistiche, 2) si fanno incroci in laboratorio, oggi anche utilizzando le nuove tecniche di manipolazione del DNA. Per “R” 2morto un papa se ne fa un altro…”.

Cosa caratterizza R rispetto al più tradizionale P? Essenzialmente: 1) pensa che l’uomo faccia parte della natura e non concepisce la distinzione naturale/artificiale e 2) pensa che il maggior baluardo nella difesa della natura sia il cambiamento, lo deduce osservando la natura stessa.

Ricorda che la scienza è anche “politica”. Quindi? Quindi, a prescindere dall’accuratezza del tuo studio, tieni presente che:

1. Se la tua ricerca mostra che certe “lacune individuali” (povertà, intelligenza, miopia decisionale…) derivano dalla condizione sociale riceverà maggiore sostegno in termini di peer review, citazioni e diffusione rispetto alla ricerca in cui si mostra che invece sono congenite.

2. Se la tua ricerca mostra che il discrimine demografico è potente e pervasivo riceverà maggiore sostegno in termini di peer review, citazioni e diffusione rispetto ad una ricerca in cui si mostra che la meritocrazia è potente e pervasiva.

3. Se la tua ricerca mostra come la pressione evolutiva, gli ormoni, ed altri fattori biologici spiegano perché certi gruppi razziali, etnici o di genere differiscono è probabile che venga valutata in termini di peer review, citazioni e diffusione a un livello inferiore rispetto ad una ricerca che critica questo approccio.

4. Se la tua ricerca mostra che i “populisti” hanno delle giustificazioni nel loro scetticismo nei confronti della scienza riceverà minor sostegno in termini di peer review, citazioni e diffusione rispetto ad una ricerca in cui si mostra che i “populisti” sono ingiustificati nel loro scetticismo nei confronti della scienza.

1) Politico.

2) Popolo.

3) Esperto.

4) Mercato.

Gli strumenti:

1) Decreto legge.

2) Referendum.

3) Analisi costi benefici.

4) Asta.

Inconvenienti:

1) Il politico non ha interesse a decidere bene, pensa alle prossime elezioni.

2) Il popolo è razionalmente ignorante, ideologicamente stupido e, quando va bene, disinteressato.

3) L’esperto ha solo una testa e lì dentro non puo’ entrare la conoscenza necessaria per decidere bene su problemi complessi.

4) Il Mercato in questi casi viene comunque sporcato dal Politico con cui deve inevitabilmente interfacciarsi.
