LA DIGNITA' DEL NEO-NEGAZIONISMO AMBIENTALE

Non sono un negazionista. Sì, la CO2 è un problema, il riscaldamento è un problema, ma una carbon tax uniforme, una vasta espansione dell' energia nucleare, un impiego esteso del fracking e del gas naturale, molta ricerca e sviluppo in tema, alimenti OGM e geoingegneria sono le soluzioni.

Eppure per l'ambientalismo religioso resto un negazionista. A questo punto rivendico di esserlo.

Nella lotta contro il riscaldamento globale ci si dimentica sempre una cosa: a inquinare di più sono i paesi poveri.

Entro il 2040, il 75% delle emissioni globali arriverà da economie emergenti come la Cina e l'India. Un’ Italia a emissione zero, tanto per dire, interessa ormai poco se gli “emergenti” continueranno ad emergere.

Questo cosa significa? Che non dobbiamo trovare i modi per non inquinare, dobbiamo invece scoprire il modo per rendere più conveniente non inquinare che inquinare.

Detto in altri termini: non serve a nulla il sacrificio dei volenterosi, serve invece il genio degli innovatori: finanziamoli!

Penso alla solitudine del’anti-fascista senza fascismo, a quella del missionario senza povertà, allo struggimento dell’interista senza Juventus… Voi ridete ma è un dramma. Ti senti spaesato, goffo e stupido come quando al buio in fondo alla scala aspetti un ultimo gradino che non c’è. Vuoi compensare in qualche modo, incanalare subito altrove le tue energie positive in esubero. Non offri un bello spettacolo.

Quando ridicolizzo chi utilizza sette pattumiere per riciclare i rifiuti o mangia bio per combattere il riscaldamento globale, c’è sempre chi – sapendo che non sono un negazionista - avanza un’obiezione (solo apparentemente) sensata: “ma che male ti fa, anche lui nel suo piccolo dà un contributo alla soluzione del problema, lascialo in pace e lascialo vivere come crede”. No, le cose non stanno in questi termini. Un “gretino” impegnato in micro-condotte eco-friendly assomiglia molto di più all’adepto di una setta che a chi “dà il suo piccolo contributo”. In quanto tale, come tutti i temperamenti religiosi, nel momento in cui intravede che la sua divinità cessa di essere utile, potrebbe entrare in crisi esistenziale e diventare cattivo. Il nemico che viene a mancare lo rende nervoso.

Un dato che mi conferma nella mia ipotesi: chi è più impegnato ad orientare la sua esistenza contro l’effetto serra è anche il più ostile ad adottare misure serie (carbon tax, nucleare, geoengineering) per risolvere il problema ambientale.

E chi riferisce a chi vede nell'utopia verde l'ultima trincea contro mercato e diseguaglianze che la lotta per un ambiente più pulito richiede più mercato e più diseguaglianze?

Il mercato borsistico è sostanzialmente un mercato previsionale sui valori delle attività, quindi se tali valori sono correlati a qualcosa che ci interessa sapere, possiamo usare il mercato per prevedere come andrà a finire. Questo semplice paradigma puo’ essere applicato anche ai cambiamenti climatici, per esempio si possono costruire – anzi già esistono - dei derivati finanziari relativi alla domanda di aria condizionata in futuro (anche a lungo termine). Scopriamo così che gli investitori del passato hanno fatto un buon lavoro prevedendo la portata dei cambiamenti climatici futuri, soprattutto quelli che si sono fidati delle previsioni dell'IPCC. Ma non è detta l’ultima parola: gli scettici del riscaldamento globale potrebbero scommettere contro la futura domanda di aria condizionata e fare palate di soldi, se hanno ragione – Perché non ci provano? Questo indebolisce la loro posizione.

1) Sui giornali pronti a dare del “negazionista” a chiunque esprima qualche riserva sull’ortodossia climatica, la questione ambientale spunta sempre fuori in occasione di catastrofici “eventi atmosferici estremi”. Ma i dati dicono che non sono aumentati. Esistono forse anche gli “affermazionisti” sempre pronti a cavalcare l’onda emotiva?

2) Curva di Kuznets: l'ambiente è un bene di lusso, rassegnamoci, la via migliore per “comprare” ecologia consiste nell’arricchirsi... rinunciando a politiche redistributive. Ma a qualcuno la via più ragionevole non piace. Chissà perché.

3) Molto ambientalismo militante privilegia la spiritualità e l’ideologia (“feel good factor”) rispetto alla razionalità. I danni possono essere enormi. Vogliamo parlarne?

4) Vuoi davvero beneficiare le generazioni future? Chiudere l’accordo commerciale di Doha pesa più che chiudere qualsiasi accordo sul clima.
