Si puo’ essere felici ascoltando una cantata di Bach senza credere?
Che strana domanda, cominciamo a vedere se puo’ avere un senso.
A quanto pare, ultimamente, la miglior agenzia pubblicitaria della Religione sembra essere la Scienza:

Non è un caso se negli ultimi anni l’ “ateo aggressivo” non è più molto richiesto dai rotocalchi dovendo cedere il passo all’ “ateo gentile”, ovvero a colui che, apprezzandole, intende “riformulare” le tipiche attitudini dell’ “uomo religioso” adattandole al mondo secolare e spogliandole di ogni riferimento alla divinità.
Alain de Botton è un brillante rappresentante della categoria.
L’ ateo gentile non intende rinunciare, per esempio, alla bellezza di una cantata bachiana lasciando che solo il credente possa goderne fino in fondo.
Ma il tentativo di AdB e dei suoi sodali lascia perplessi:
What he misses, is that religions are good at building community and nurturing kindness because, paradoxically, they do not aim directly to do either… Goodwill and well-being may follow. They also may not. But when they do, they are happy by-products of the main task, which is not actually to have a successful life. It is to come to know God. Per tornare all’ ascolto della musica sacra, la chiosa conclusiva più pertinente è di Roger Scruton:
