LA CENSURA AI TEMPI DELLA LIBERTA’ D’ESPRESSIONE+ COME PUO' UNO SCOGLIO...

COME PUO' UNO SCOGLIO ARGONARE IL MARE? PUO' PUO'.
È in atto un tentativo di migrazione da Facebook a VK, si lamentano censure. Spiace perdere "amici" con cui è bello dialogare. Ma, mi chiedo, davvero la mannaia del politicamente corretto incombe sulle nostre teste?
Per evitare di perdere tempo: non bisognerebbe parlare di "idee censurate" poiché la censura implica un intervento governativo, sarebbe meglio parlare di “idee silenziate”. Ecco, una volta precisato questo usiamo pure il termine censura e non si rompano i coglioni...
Tipico discorsetto di chi minimizza la censura. "Caro Mario Giordano, dici di "cantare fuori dal coro", di avere opinioni scomode, di incarnare il classico "silenziato". Ma va là! A chi vuoi darla a bere. Come è possibile sopportare questo eroico calvario e al contempo essere una star della tv che parla ad un vasto pubblico adorante? La celebrità può forse convivere con un tabù violato?". Ecco cosa si chiede retoricamente chi giudica un puro pretesto questa lagna dei "fuori dal coro" esclusi dal consesso civile.
Qui i “minimizzatori” non mi convincono. A me la “convivenza” denunciata sembra possibile. Riflettiamo. I transgender vivono forse in modo facile e rilassato la loro condizione solo perché Vladimir Luxuria è da anni una super star della tv? Mi sembra chiaro che tabù violati e celebrità possono convivere, eccome se possono…
A volte professare idee controverse è addirittura un viatico per la celebrità! I primi due motivi che vengono in mente Motivi: 1) violare un tabù fa spettacolo 2) le persone con il coraggio di professare idee scomode sono poche, hanno meno concorrenza e quindi concentrano su di sè la popolarità 3) chi ha il coraggio di violare un tabù possiede doti particolari da far valere, e questo lo agevola nella corsa alla celebrità.
Ad ogni modo, per capire se ci sia censura o meno direi di definire meglio il termine, in molti dimostrano di non afferrarlo. Ecco allora la formuletta condensata: CI = SI/TSI
CI: grado di censura dell'idea I
SI: supporto all'idea I
TSI: trasparenza del supporto all'idea I
È chiaro che chi non vede censura solo perché un'idea è ampiamente supportata confonde numeratore e denominatore. O meglio, non tiene conto di quest'ultimo.
Adesso due parole sul denominatore. Un supporto puo’ dirsi trasparente quando è agevole esprimerlo nella sfera pubblica, quando ci si mette la faccia senza problemi, anzi con orgoglio. Se invece supporto un'idea ma non oso espormi, allora quell'idea, per quanto diffusa, è di fatto silenziata per via di un denominatore basso. Nella favola dell'imperatore, tutti vedevano le sue nudità ma l'idea era silenziata, ci volle un bambino per fornire la dovuta trasparenza a quell’opinione universale. Un caso estremo di censura che schizza all’insù per effetto del denominatore basso.
Ancora sul denominatore. Conosco un professore che ha firmato una lettera aperta di condanna contro l'idea delle differenze sessuali innate. La cosa particolare è che lui crede a queste differenze. Ma allora perché ha firmato? Perché si aspettava che nel suo dipartimento tutti firmassero, e sarebbe stato brutto essere l'unico a non farlo. Ma perché si aspettava che tutti firmassero? Probabilmente perché tutti avrebbero fatto il suo stesso ragionamento. Ecco cos'è il denominatore. Chiaro?

LA CENSURA AI TEMPI DELLA LIBERTA’ D’ESPRESSIONE
La spiego con una barzelletta sovietica: alla stazione ferroviaria di Mosca c’è un uomo sospetto che distribuisce volantini a tutti quelli che passano. Alla fine, ovviamente, il KGB lo arresta, ma scoprono con sorpresa che i volantini sono solo fogli bianchi. "Che senso ha tutto cio’?", chiedono. E lui: "cosa c'è da scrivere? È tutto così ovvio!". A ragione viene spedito nel gulag come soggetto estremamente pericoloso.
E’ la classica situazione in cui l'uomo sta cercando solo di rendere di pubblico dominio cio’ che già tutti conoscono. Ma è proprio questo che teme più di ogni altra cosa il dittatore: il volantino, non quello che c’è scritto sopra.
Se odio il dittatore, la cosa al dittatore non interessa, purché non lo scriva sul volantino.
Anche se odio il dittatore sapendo che lo odia il 99% della popolazione, la cosa interessa relativamente il dittatore. Purché non lo si scriva su un volantino.
Se odio il dittatore sapendo che il 99% della popolazione lo odia ed è cosciente che il 99% della popolazione lo odia, al dittatore non interessa. Purché questa situazione non venga illustrata su un volantino.
Senza volantini il dittatore puo’ tenere in scacco il 99% della popolazione che lo odia.
Il volantino è la dimensione pubblica di un’idea. Si puo' censurare un'idea ma ci si puo' limitare a censurarne la dimensione pubblica.
Attenzione: consentire che un’opinione venga espressa ma fatichi ad accedere alla dimensione pubblica – magari perché considerata “poco rispettabile” – è compatibile con la libertà d’espressione. La vera libertà d’espressione, allora, implica, tra le altre cose, IL RISPETTO di tutte le opinioni. Per questo chi si INDIGNA è un censore in erba.

LOTTA ALL’EVASIONE Perché la si proclama da anni a una “sola voce” e poi non la si fa? A molti (ingenui) la cosa sembra assurda. Per capire entriamo nel dibattito. Illustro due posizioni agli antipodi: 1) Giovanni: “Evadere le imposte almeno per un 50% è un dovere civico. Chi non si adopera per farlo è un codardo che non vuole bene al suo paese”. 2) Giacomo: “Pagare le imposte è un dovere civico. Chi non adempie a questo dovere “ruba” agli altre e nuoce al paese”. Secondo voi, se l’Agenzia delle Entrate deve fare un accertamento andrà da Giovanni o da Giacomo? Da Giovanni, è ovvio. E fa bene, è del tutto razionale che agisca in questo modo. La probabilità che l’evasione si annidi lì è maggiore. Questo cosa implica? Essenzialmente che Giovanni non esprimerà mai la sua opinione sincera e che il dibattito in cui tutti sono “liberi” di intervenire sarà in realtà un monologo. Ascoltate le telefonate al programma giornalistico di Prima Pagina su Radio Tre e avrete la rappresentazione plastica del “monologo” in atto. Al massimo, ci si spinge a fare un timido cenno benevolo all’evasione di necessità. Ora dovrebbe essere abbastanza chiaro perché l’evasione viene proclamata “a una sola voce”, perché il dialogo sul problema non è un dialogo, è necessariamente un monologo “a una sola voce”. Quell’unica voce è poi destinata a gonfiarsi anche perché chi non ha una posizione in materia trova conveniente unirsi al coro. Dirò di più, anche Giovanni, se interpellato, si unirà a quell’unica voce, magari con scarso entusiasmo ma lo farà se non è un pazzo. Poi, difficilmente si passerà dalle parole ai fatti, ma è proprio cio’ che ci si attende perché più o meno tutti (tranne gli accecati dal fanatismo) sono consapevoli di questa finzione collettiva.

Can books ever be useful for such education, or must all genuinely philosophical instruction be oral and personal? With respect to philosophy, there is a real danger that, in the words of Voltaire, “the multitude of books is making us ignorant.”

These, then, are the main essentials of persuasiveness; to which may be added that indicated by Theophrastus when he says that all possible points should not be punctiliously and tediously elaborated, but some should be left to the comprehension and inference of the hearer who when he perceives what you have omitted becomes not only your hearer but your witness, and a very friendly witness too. For he thinks himself intelligent because you have afforded him the means of showing his intelligence. It seems like a slur on your hearer to tell him everything as though he were a simpleton.

THE RHETORICAL EFFECT OF THE PROSAIC
The modern rationalist, the believer in literalness and clarity, holds that by writing in a dry, neutral, and rigorous manner one appeals directly to the rational faculties, without any involvement of rhetorical bias. The problem is that such a style is not really neutral, for the prosaic too has a powerful rhetorical effect and not a simply rational or salutary one.

If past thinkers deliberately wrote their books in the manner suggested, they would impose on the reader the enormous burden of navigating artificial labyrinths, solving elaborate puzzles, and cracking obscure codes—and all of this effort would be needed just in order to arrive at an understanding of what the book’s real argument is. The reader will then scarcely have time or energy left to do the real business of philosophy:

Today we labor under the great burden of a philosophic tradition that now stretches back 2,500 years. There are hundreds of major philosophical works to master and—since the rise of modern scholarship about 150 years ago—there are also hundreds of secondary writings devoted to each one of these primary works. Indeed, in our time, it is hardly possible to walk through the stacks of a major research library and not feel, among other things, oppressed by the crushing weight of so many books. The fact is that modern scholars find themselves in an impossible intellectual situation, which, though it is seldom thematically discussed, conditions all of their hermeneutical instincts. It strongly inclines us to dismiss as implausible—because simply unbearable—any suggestion that would increase our already overwhelming scholarly burden. But of course this condition of overload did not always exist.

The objection assumes that the deciphering of an esoteric text is a task altogether different from—and therefore obstructive of—philosophizing. It assumes that the puzzles contained in the esoteric book are purely “artificial” and unrelated to the puzzles in reality that occupy the philosopher. But this is not necessarily the case. Indeed, one of the primary purposes of pedagogical concealment is precisely to train the reader for the kind of thinking needed to philosophize. But whether and how it is able to serve this purpose depend on how one understands the true character of philosophy and of the reality it seeks to penetrate.
